President Obama Signs Monsanto Protection Act
For the past year, family farm advocates and legal experts have fought to stop the Monsanto Protection Act, another special interest corporate giveaway that fundamentally undermines the federal courts’ ability to protect family farmers and the environment from potentially hazardous GMO crops that have not been proven safe.

okay. what now? where’s the silver lining? it’s so bad—it has to get better from now on, right?

Uncovered, the 'toxic' gene hiding in GM crops: Revelation throws new doubt over safety of foods

primalpalette:

A virus gene that could be poisonous to humans has been missed when GM food crops have been assessed for safety.

what the fuck. all the more reason to start cultivating our little corners of paradise and stop eating animal products until we develop a personal relationship with our animals.

too lazy to read up on this. regardless, i dont buy naked juice anyways. if this is true, neither should you

Pretty sure some of them aren’t even vegan which is fucking beyond me

But it’s delicious So fuck it, get Naked

These are too good not to drink.

it is true. naked is just a pepsi co brand. and they aren’t even very natural or good for you. if you’re going to be consuming something, letting something physically be a part of you, i’d check up to see what it actually is, and not just blindly trust the marketing.

why i disagree with "Boycotting Pro-GMO Organic Brands Not the Way"

check out this article from the jackson free press.

“…consider what boycotting those brands might mean.

Will it promote organic? Or other organic products? Or organic growers? Or the companies that sell organics? Hardly. Rather, it will simply retard market share for organics. This will, in turn, feed the idea that organics isn’t growing as a consumer market, which it is. And it could undermine those who are actually growing organically and the stores that carry these organic brands.”

i disagree. the boycott, called by the organic consumer’s association, doesn’t say to not buy organic, local brands. it simply calls for you to stop supporting the fake organic brands that are money funnels for the big-ag-supporting food companies, like pepsi and kraft. why would people who always buy kashi start buying cornflakes just because they learn kashi is fake? they are going to find a smaller, more local brand of breakfast food, or maybe, start making their own granola!  or maybe trading it with their neighbor who makes granola for some eggs! who knows.

the point is, when people are aware what they are voting for with their money when they buy fake organic brands, they are going to be motivated to make an even better decision. and who cares about “feeding the idea” that organic isn’t growing? to hell with all the talking heads on tv! they don’t know what you feel in your heart. and my heart is telling me that supporting these fake organic brands is simply wrong. it does not align with my beliefs. i cannot feel good about supporting these companies. and feeling good is an essential part of my health, which is the whole point i choose to learn about the secrets of the food system.

also, if the market share of organics is growing, but it’s growing in terms of industrial organic, then that’s another battle we’ll have to fight in the future. you see, there’s farms and brands that are going organic to cash in on the trend. they just buy organic soil amendments, organic herbicides and pesticides, and pay for the certification. this does not actually help build better soil, or even grow better food. the love, the care for the earth and the plants and the people, still isn’t there. soil amendments, organic or chemical, still burn the little delicate feet, the roots, of plants. they still alter the natural balance. just like using a tractor and mechanical harvester can be considered organic, but it disrupts the natural fertility of the soil and degrades the food in ways that can only be felt, not explained through words.

real organic farming is more than organic. it is about a system that nourishes the body of the earth with an understanding that it’s the very same flesh and blood body we live in. it’s about building the soil, not tilling it and driving over it with heavy machinery. it’s about developing a connection and an understanding for our place in the web of life. that one action out of step with the natural balance of nature can send everything in the wrong direction.

these are the people i want to support with my money. the people who get that farming isn’t about food. or money. it’s about something much greater, much more powerful.  and when i eat silk almond milk or maybe some tostidos, i feel unaligned with what i know and hold to be true and right in the world.

i have another issue with this article.

“Moreover, it accelerates the trend away from small growers to Big Ag corporations that can afford a smaller profit margin as part of a mix of organic and nonorganic products. In other words, a boycott plays into the hands of those who are being boycotted: the very corporations that sell both organic and nonorganic products. They win either way while it penalizes those who solely sell organic products, grow organics and buy organics.”

can someone explain this to me?  is it just me that thinks this makes absolutely no sense? how do they win either way? they need us to vote for them with our dollars (well…they also have the government backing them…). how can our choice not to support the fakers of organic only hurt the real organic people? they only win if we buy their products, organic or non organic. so we need to find the people doing it right, we need to find the small, local, organic, biodynamic, permaculture, community oriented, cooperative, and loving business and companies that want to help heal the body of the earth by feeding our bodies with good, clean and fair food.

Trying to eat more blueberries because they are really good for you and your skin! I don’t really like blueberries so putting them in cereal and smoothies is the best option.
Click here to learn more about the power of fruit :)

just because something is vegan doesn’t make it good or healthy. cereals use refined sugar and grains. not to mention general mills and kellogs use genetically modified food and donated to no on 37, the GMO food prop in california that didn’t pass. boycott cheerios!

These aren’t cheerios. They are simple truth organic oats. I do my best to only purchase organic, non GMO products :)

When being sassy backfires.

that’s wonderful, glad to hear it. however my point still stands that cereals in general are not optimal for health. even if they are made with organic ingredients, they are still refined and processed. also, even if you are buying organic vegan everything, you have to be careful. for example, rice dream is owned by Hain Celestial. “If you buy Rice Dream products, you are supporting Wal-Mart, ExxonMobil, Philip Morris and the worst of them all – Monsanto.” (click on photo for more info)
my point is—be careful. do your research. read the fine print on the label. what are those “natural flavorings” they speak of? what about “tricalcium phosphate”?
i’m not saying i know everything, however i try to join the conversation and spread what awareness i have and question what i don’t think is right.

open your eyes and see the hypocrisy you're shoveling down your gullet

youngblackandvegan:

porcedex:

pipperipembo:

They stomped on our right to know. Now it’s time to get even.

Prop 37, the California Right to Know GMO labeling initiative, was narrowly defeated last week thanks to a relentless, deceitful $46-million advertising blitz. Among the largest bankrollers of the NO on 37 campaign were huge multinational food and beverage companies whose subsidiaries make billions selling some of your favorite organic and “natural” brands.

Brands like Kashi. Honest Tea. Naked Juice. Muir Glen, Horizon, Silk, and Morningstar Farms.

It’s time to boycott the companies and brands whose dirty money confused and scared millions of California voters into voting No on Prop 37. It’s time to plaster their facebook pages with this message: We won’t support you until you support us. It’s time to call their consumer hotlines, complain to the store managers where you buy your organic and natural products. It’s time to tarnish their holy organic and natural images, to expose their hypocrisy and greed.

It’s time to raise a little hell. If we raise enough hell, maybe their parent companies will come to their senses and stop carrying the water for Monsanto and the biotech industry. Maybe they’ll stay neutral in the upcoming labeling battles in Washington state and Vermont.

The OCA is calling on consumers to boycott these organic and “natural” traitor brands:

  • PepsiCo (Donated $2.5M): Naked Juice, Tostito’s Organic, Tropicana Organic
  • Kraft (Donated $2M): Boca Burgers and Back to Nature
  • Safeway (Member of Grocery Manufacturers Association, which donated $2M):“O” Organics
  • Coca-Cola (Donated $1.7M): Honest Tea, Odwalla
  • General Mills (Donated $1.2M):  Muir Glen, Cascadian Farm, Larabar
  • Con-Agra (Donated $1.2M): Orville Redenbacher’s Organic, Hunt’s Organic, Lightlife, Alexia
  • Kellogg’s (Donated $791k): Kashi, Bear Naked, Morningstar Farms, Gardenburger
  • Smucker’s (Donated $555k ): R.W. Knudsen, Santa Cruz Organic
  • Unilever (Donated $467k): Ben & Jerry’s
  • Dean Foods (Donated $254k): Horizon, Silk, White Wave

Tell these companies that if they want your loyalty - and your grocery dollars - they must do two things:

1. Speak out publicly in favor of the pending GMO Labeling Ballot Initiative (I-522) in Washington State in 2013, as well as the pending GMO labeling bills coming up in Vermont and other states.

2. Contribute as much or more money to the Yes on I-522 Campaign in Washington than their parent corporations spent to defeat Prop 37 in California.

Prop 37 was narrowly defeated, by dirty money and dirty tricks. But it spawned a huge, national consumer movement that is fired up and more determined than ever to fight this battle until we win the right to know if our food has been genetically modified. We’re already collecting signatures in Washington State, talking to legislators in Vermont and Connecticut. A 30-state coalition is formulating a plan to collaborate on GMO-labeling laws and initiatives.

You are a part of this movement, and today we’re calling on you, on the millions of consumers who were outraged by the NO on 37’s dirty campaign, to send a clear message to the traitor brands who helped kill Prop 37, in the only language they understand: lost profits and lower sales.

If you are able to avoid these brands, please do so!  If you are not, I promise I will fight for your right to wholesome, nutritious, non-toxic food.

Bolded for emphasis. THIS is the way we should phrase our urge for the change of human habits for a better world. If you can change, then please do. If not, I will fight for you

All the awards for this vegan phrasing!

plant based whole foods diet is the way to go! yo como plantitas! solo plantitas!

The Idiot Cycle, free documentary

go watch this. please. i love you and i want you to live a long and healthy life doing what you love and finally dying of old age.

this is about chemicals, cancer, gmos, and complete corporate control.  the companies that create products essential for western lifestyle are the same ones feeding us and prescribing us drugs. ugh. fucking monsanto. and so many more.

it is crucial that people learn about the poisonous trails of chemicals and the companies that create them because of the legal battle ensuing currently in california over the labeling of genetically modified foods. proposition 37 is necessary and only one step in returning to a world where we are free from the harms of dangerous chemicals.
